SAGE and our employees take great pride in helping to provide future engineers and geoscientists with access to educational resources. As part of our efforts to share our knowledge of earthquake engineering and risk reduction with students and faculty at EERI’s student chapters, we are excited to announce that Principal Engineer, Dr. Faiz Makdisi, PhD, PE, D.GE, will be presenting at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, and at New York State University at Buffalo. Makdisi is taking part in visits sponsored by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute’s Friedman Family Visiting Professionals Program.
With more than 39 years of specialized experience in geotechnical and earthquake engineering, Dr. Makdisi (together with the late Professor H.B. Seed) is widely known for his groundbreaking study of seismic behavior and simplified procedure for estimating the dynamic response and permanent deformations in earth and rock fill dams. His presentation, The Seismic Stability and Deformation of Embankment Dams, will provide procedures and examples from current practice and examples from case histories.
“It’s an honor,” Makdisi states, of being asked to impart his experience with tomorrow’s practitioners.
