Benjamin Serna’s professional experience has focused on geotechnical engineering for a wide variety of projects. He routinely leads investigations providing geotechnical/earthquake engineering in support of the seismic evaluation and retrofit of existing structures and the design of new structures including bridges, buildings, levees, piers and wharves, and water storage facilities.
Mr. Serna’s experience includes design and evaluation of deep and shallow foundations, dynamic soil-foundation-structure interaction, earthquake ground motions, earth retaining structures, ground improvement, liquefaction, and seismic slope stability. In addition, he has served on professional committees focused on the development of seismic guidelines for the design of port waterfront structures.
Mr. Serna also regularly leads business development initiatives and manages all phases of geotechnical engineering services including contracting, planning, field exploration, laboratory testing, engineering analyses, design, technical report preparation, and construction support services. He also has experience managing design teams and subconsultants while maintaining schedules and budgets.
